 Day 6 - From Rome to Valdobbiadene: Bridget and Charlotte

Bridget: Today we all woke up early to go to the metro and then to the train station to take a train to Padova (Padua) before connecting with a bus to take us to Valdobbiadene and to meet our host families. The train roads was pretty scenic and we got to see some beautiful views of Italy outside Rome. While on the 3-hour-and-30-minute train ride we went through a strange amount of tunnels. The view was very green and quite foggy.

Some of us decided to catch up on our sleep we missed from the last couple days. We also said goodbye to Ann Marie (our wonderful guide and host from the Paideia Institute) and gave her a signed card from all of us as a gift. We arrived at the Giuseppe Verdi school in Valdobbiadene and were welcomed by the Italian students. We all went to a pizzeria for lunch and then headed to our host families homes. We are all doing different activities with them this evening. The culture in "Valdo" is very different from Rome but still very new and exciting.

Charlotte: Today started with another adventure on the metro followed by a long train ride. It was nice to see more of the rural areas around rome as we traveled to Valdobbiadene, I also appreciated this time as it allowed me to get caught up on sleep. When we arrived to the school we were greeted with lots of joy, hugs, and pizza. After a nice lunch at a local pizza parlor where we were able to bond as a group, I went home with my host family.

We visited a local town called Asolo where we saw two medival castles and fantastic views of the city. I learned a lot about the history of the neighboring towns and the world wars. For dinner I was able to further connect with my kind and generous hosts and learn  about the differant course of traditional Italian dining. Following a tasty gelato dessert we took a driving tour of local monuments including  architecturally famous villas and a 1830s neoclassical temple.

Amelia and Leela: A view of Padua’s Basilica di San Antonio. We started off the day with breakfast with our host families. We then met up as a whole group outside of the school in Valdo to ride an hour long bus into Padua. Italy 2025 - Day 8: A Free Day with Italian Host Families - Filiz and Allison

Filiz and Allison: Part of the system of canals and the River Sile that surrounds the medieval core of Treviso. Today, we didn’t have a fixed agenda besides spending time with our Italian host families (which meant we could sleep in after a week of early mornings). We began the day with a leisurely morning before catching a train to Treviso, a city/town near Valdobbiadene. The historical center of Treviso. While it was a relatively long ride, it was nice to have the time to rest and reflect on the previous days. In Treviso, we shopped at a few stores before sitting down for brunch. The menu included a mix of Italian and American food, and it was admittedly nice to have a reminder of the cuisine back home. A representative store in Treviso. Italy 2025 - Day 7: Venice - Anya and Carthan

Anya and Carthan: After our first night staying with the students from Valdobbiadene, we enjoyed separate mornings and breakfasts with each of our host families before meeting at the Montebelluna train station. We changed trains in Treviso to reach our final destination of Venice. The group and our Italian friends on the regional commuter train to Venice.
